What is the national bird, emblem, flower and sport of India?

 

 

The bird of India is the male cristatus. These birds are similar to peacocks. They used to be hunted in India once, but now the country has banned the hunting of these beautiful creatures.

The national emblem of India is a replica of the Lion of Sarnath. The emblem represents where the Buddha first proclaimed his gospel of peace and emancipation to the four quarters of the universe. Those four quarters of the universe are the lion of the north, the elephant of the east, the horse of the south and the bull of the west.

India's national flower is a Lotus or also known as a water lily. The water lily floats on top of ponds and the flower is considered sacred. There is legendary and religious mythology around it.

India's national sport is hockey. India's Era of the game field hockey was from 1928-1956. During that era India won 6 consecutive gold medals in the Olympics. India played 24 Olympic matches and won all 24 games with a score of 178 goals (with an average 7.43 goals per match).
